Shut Up About Twilight

WARNING: THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. IF YOU ARE AN ADULT OR JUST OLDER YOU MAY THINK THE PRECEDING RANT WAS JUVENILE BUT THE SIXTEEN YEAR OLD WHO WROTE IT THINKS IT WAS VERY MATURE BUT SHE’S JUST SIXTEEN, WHAT DOES SHE REALLY KNOW BESIDES THAT SHE’S SICK OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT TWILIGHT BEING THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD WHEN PLACES LIKE DARFUR ARE SUFFERING GENOCIDE.

Ok, warning done, I feel confident than any flamers will be unjustified in their flames *crosses fingers*…. Not that any of my work is popular enough to get flames but I’ve watched way too many Zombie movies in my life time, and way too much Tremors and like Burt, I am always prepared, always.

Alright, up there I believe I said something about documented cases of Twilight fans becoming violent or just highly inappropriate: [link] WARNING: I have no idea how many of these are real or not so its really up to you to decide whether you believe them or not. I know I do because I have very little faith in humanity.

I would also like to point out that Stephen King is probably one of my heroes now because he’s a very accomplished writer and he called Mrs. Meyer out on being a bad writer but then goes to say why he thinks that she’s so popular, here is what he said: [link]

And I would also like to point out that THIS [link] is very true, it’s a kind of psycho analysis of why girls like Twilight so much and I related to A LOT of it. I personally believe it’s a must read for Twilight fans and Anti-Twilight fans alike.

Now about those books I was talking about that are much better than Twilight.

The first one is a vampire book, or at lest some of them are, it’s really an author: Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. She was THIRTEEN when she had her first novel published. I can’t tell you how much tween Twi-tards should read her books, hopefully they’ll be some kind of inspiration to them to seek out better books. Here is her website: [link]

Another series of vampire novels is Vampire Earth written by E.E. Knight. Let me tell you, he takes on a whole different take on vampires and yet he still remains true to them unlike Mrs. Meyer. Here is his website: [link]

Now it seems to me that these books might be a little more mature than twilight is so that brings me to The Uglies Trilogy. It has about the same level of sexual content but my Elementary school librarian mother does say that these books are pretty much appropriate for her school, if only for the upper graders. But don’t let that make you think badly of these books, they may have the same sexual content of the Twilight books but the Uglies have so much more action and plot and a romance that doesn’t detract from the plot but adds to it. The Uglies Trilogy is truly a masterpiece and a true gem in the Sci-fi world for teens, here is his website: [link] but don’t just stop at those books of his, he has so many other books to offer that will make your mouth water just as much.

And now onto what is quite possible my favorite book series of all time: The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. Words do not describe the awesomeness except Mr. Weeks might be the new JMS of the fantasy world. Now for some miscellaneous books that are AWESOME and must reads to spread the depth of your soul and teach you about the world and help you not be a shallow person: Flowers for Algernon which I read in school and almost cried, twice. Fallen Angels, a book about an African American that is drafted into the Vietnam war and it is definitely one of the best war books I’ve ever read, I actually found more information on it: [link] And then there is Slaughter House Five written by Kurt Vonnegut. Words will never describe this acid trip of a P.O.W. story of WWII, just know that you should read it.

Now for some mangas, I’m not going to spend much time on this but for romance I recommend Fruits Basket and Demon Diary. Always remember that google is your friend and that [link] is a place where many (but not all) mangas can be read for free, also Soul Eater, Tsubasa, and Fullmetal Alchemist. There are animes for these mangas and some of them are good and you should watch them but also read the mangas.

Now for movies: Gran Torino because I cried and it is my favorite movie OF ALL TIME. The Great Escape because it is my second favorite movie of all time. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron because, dude, that was one of the greatest movies I’d ever seen when I was growing up, same goes for all the Tremors movie and the Jurassic Park movies. Also the first Transformers movie, Enemy at the Gates because snipers are pwnage and Jude Law is very easy on the eyes, plus they’re killing Nazis, what more could you want? A Dream Works movie called Evolution, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later, Labyrinth (the one from the 80s with David Bowie), Pan’s Labyrinth (The Spanish one made not to long ago), Hellboy, and Nightmare before Christmas.

Now for miscellaneous crap that I didn’t feel comfortable putting elsewhere: Red vs Blue from Roosterteeth, everything and anything to do with Discworld, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the TV shows Supernatural, the first 2 seasons of Heroes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. I’m not going to go into video games or comic books or cartoons because I will go crazy if I do. Now I’m going to go die after writing all of that…
